What it Takes to Drive
Basic Skills Not Enough
Driving, of course, is the application of skills needed to effectively operate an automobile on the road. But having the knowledge of operating a car and a basic practical grasp of its operation doesn’t necessarily translate into successful motoring.
Besides the Basic Operational Skills
The three major physical and cognitive steps that are needed, to drive safely and effectively, begin with surveying the environment in which you operate the car. This is followed by evaluating the conditions you encounter and then by taking prudent and appropriate action to safely proceed.
The sub-sections that follow will explore each of these steps we take practically every moment we drive. As we consider each major step, it will become apparent that if we are to continue driving well into our old age, we need to keep the skills to take these steps, keen and sharp.
